Smarter Work with Generative AI (SWAI) Seminar invites business executives and AI practitioners to hear from thought leaders, learn latest research insights on how generative AI is transforming business. The SWAI is a joint project of Department of Industrial Engineering and Management and School of Business Aalto University, funded by Business Finland. Co-organized with Aalto University Executive Education, the seminar offers ample opportunities to connect with peers creating and exploring AI solutions.

Kalle Lyytinen
Kalle Lyytinen

Kalle Lyytinen is a Distinguished University Professor at Case Western Reserve University and a distinguished visiting professor at Aalto University, Finland. He is among the top five Information Systems scholars in terms of his h-index (96). A leading thinker on digital technology and innovation, he is an AIS Fellow (2004) and the LEO Award recipient (2013). He has published over 400 refereed articles and edited or written over 30 books or special issues. He has won best paper awards from leading research societies like AoM and AIS/ICIS, and served as senior editor or editor to all Information Systems journals and several leading organization theory and innovation journals. His research includes topics such as digital innovation and its dynamics and organizing, complex design work, requirements in large systems, and emergence and growth of digital infrastructures.

Eeva Raita
Eeva Raita

Dr. Eeva Raita is the Chief Strategy Officer at Futurice, a European technology company specializing in digital transformation. With over 15 years of experience in emerging technologies, she leads strategic development and execution, focusing on integrating AI to enhance work environments. Dr. Raita holds a Doctorate in Social Sciences from the University of Helsinki, where her research centered on human-computer interaction. She also serves on the boards of Reka Industrial and Titanium Plc, contributing her expertise in strategic development and organizational renewal. Her insights on AI and leadership have been featured in various publications, where she discusses topics such as the future of work and digital transformation strategies.

Mikko Valorinta serves as the CEO of Nvelop, a start-up specializing in an AI-powered sourcing platform. With 25 years of experience in IT and consulting, Mikko has held prominent leadership roles, including CEO positions at Enfo and Epical, as well as EVP and CEO of Capgemini Finland. He earned his Doctor of Science (Tech) degree from Aalto University. 

Emilia Blomfelt, Transformation Lead at KONE focused on digital transformation and strategic business development. She is dedicated to driving innovative AI use cases that enhance operational efficiency and empower teams to focus on value creation. Emilia led one of KONE's pioneering generative AI use cases, from concept to global deployment. Prior to joining KONE, Emilia worked in consulting, specialized on communication strategies and digital transformation initiatives. 

Johannes Koponen is the founder-CEO of 'Konsensus.me', an award-winning AI platform that keeps reports up to date. He is also researching institutional constraints that hinder society from fully benefiting from digital platforms, with a particular interest in news products that improve with use. Johannes is also the author of two non-fiction books on platform societies and platform companies (published in 2019 and 2022). Additionally, he teaches strategic foresight and platform business model innovation at Aalto Executive Education and advises organizations on integrating foresight into strategy.

How Generative AI technologies will reshape the working of modern businesses? Smarter Work with Generative AI project addresses this question, bringing together researchers of industrial engineering and management and companies to support the latter in utilizing generative AI.

SWAI Researchers

Jukka Luoma

Jukka Luoma is an Associate Professor in Strategic Management at Aalto University. His research focuses on competitive strategy and digital technologies, especially how data, analytics and artificial intelligence are used in organizations. Jukka’s research has been published in top-tier journals such as the Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, and Organization Science. Besides his research work, Jukka is actively involved with companies and other organizations as a keynote speaker, executive educator and strategy work facilitator. His current work with companies focuses mostly on helping organizations understand the strategy implications and adoption challenges associated with AI. Jukka co-leads the research project Smarter Work with Generative Artificial Intelligence.

Henri Schildt

Henri Schildt is a Professor of Strategy with a joint appointment at the Aalto School of Business and the School of Science. His research interests span digitalization, strategic change, and social sustainability. His work has been published in leading academic journals, including Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, and Strategic Management Journal, and his book The Data Imperative was published by Oxford University Press in 2020. He is currently co-leading the research project Smarter Work with Generative Artificial Intelligence that examines how companies are integrating large language models in their internal processes and services

Andrei Indukaev
Andrey Indukaev

Andrey Indukaev is a postdoctoral researcher and a member of the SWAI research group. His research focuses on platform economy and digital technology. As part of the project, Andrey studies the adoption and governance of the latest forms of artificial intelligence technology. 

Pinja Hokkanen
Pinja Hokkanen

Pinja Hokkanen is a doctoral researcher at Aalto University and part of the SWAI research group. Her research focuses on how generative AI will shape strategies and strategy work within organizations. 

Heli Helanummi-Cole
Heli Helanummi-Cole

Heli Helanummi-Cole is a Lecturer in Strategy at Tampere University and a visiting researcher at Aalto University. Heli's work explores digitalization, the changing nature of work, and innovation infrastructures.
