Title of the thesis: Porous Aerostatic Bearing Manufacturing and Static Performance

Thesis defender: Valtteri Vainio
Opponent: Prof. Andreas Archenti, KTH, Sweden
Custos: Prof. Raine Viitala,Aalto University School of Engineering

The manufacturing of graphite-based air bearings involves several challenges in terms of both methods and materials. An important aspect for the industrial utilization of air bearings is the performance repeatability.

This dissertation addresses the manufacturing and performance of air bearings. It presents the manufacturing process of air bearings and experimentally investigates their performance. Several different measurement setups were constructed for performance measurements, and a multi-stage process was developed for the manufacturing of air bearings.
