Pitch Your Potential: A Winning Research Story

Can you explain what you do in two minutes to someone outside your field? Do people nod politely and then ask what it means for them?

Many doctoral researchers believe that a strong research record will speak for itself. The truth is a bit different. This workshop gives you the tools to turn your research into a clear, memorable story that opens doors in industry, the public sector, and academia.

In our events, we are committed to Aalto University’s principles for a safer space.

Why it matters? Opportunities are rarely given to the most qualified person. They go to the person who can explain clearly who they are, what they can do, and why it matters. Many researchers start with the topic and the method, when listeners are waiting to hear the value.

What you will learn: how to build a short pitch around your working skills instead of your research topic, how to adapt the same story for recruiters, collaborators, and funders, how to open with a hook and close with a clear ask, and how to turn your pitch into a simple visual profile using personal brand canva.

A unique feature of this workshop: From Research Topic to Personal Brand. Participants will practise their pitch live, get feedback, and leave with a ready-to-use pitch and a first visual draft.

Who should attend? Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers who want to present themselves with confidence at events, interviews, and in everyday professional conversations.
