Equality, diversity and inclusion at the School of Electrical Engineering

Students, faculty and staff of the School of Electrical Engineering form a diverse community, and our personnel represents almost 70 different nationalities. Equality, diversity and inclusion work is carried out throughout the School, from management decisions to everyday encounters between colleagues. Some central themes in our equality, diversity and inclusion work 2023-2024 are:
We, for example,
- develop our Tenure Track recruitment processes by enhancing the EDI aspects of the process, and extensive use of Talent Search for reaching out to minority candidates,
- require all recruiting managers to read the Aalto Handbook in Diversity and Quality in Recruitment,
- promote best practices on parental leaves.

We, for example,
- concentrate in diversity in large sense in our EDI communication,
- organise discussion events and film screenings to raise awareness,
- support minority groups.

We, for example,
- increase our efforts in Shaking up Tech in order to reach out to high school students
- organise Women's Lunch for women and members of gender minorities in ELEC.

At the School of Electrical Engineering, EDI work is coordinated by the ELEC EDI Group, nominated by the Dean every two years. The group prepares a biennial action plan that implements Aalto's EDI plan on the school level. The group members actively participate in implementation of the activities. The group works together with the Dean, School Management Team, the personnel administration and education management, communications, and other central parties.

How to get involved?
Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion benefits everyone. Be active in participating in activities we organise and use resources we offer. All members of our community are most welcome to participate in planning and contributing to activities even if they are not members of the EDI Group. If you have ideas about actions at department or school level or in your student guild, please share them with us, or apply funding for implementation from the ELEC D&I Funding.
