The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Business Incubation Centre ESA BIC was established in Finland in 2017. During the first nine years of operation, 44 companies were admitted. The agreement was renewed with ESA and Aalto in 2024 and the aim is to establish 38 new space startups by 2030.

The incubator’s goal is to provide Finnish companies with access to applications of new space technology through the channels and programmes of the European Space Agency. It also funds startup companies.

We support ambitious startups, ideas and business models that offer new space sector solutions and technologies in many different fields.

Application criteria

  • Your innovative idea makes use of space technology, data or expertise and is aimed at non-space markets, or you have developed something new and potentially interesting for the space market.
  • Your company was founded no more than five years ago, or you are in the process of starting a new company.
  • Your team is located or will be located in Finland.

Whether targeting consumer, business or both sectors, we help startups and entrepreneurs bring new technologies into use by ESA and its partner network, or transfer existing ESA space technologies and hardware, such as satellite data, into terrestrial applications.

We organise application rounds twice a year, in spring and autumn.
