Installation instructions for Eduroam

Eduroam is an international, academic roaming system that is primarily intended for visitors to Aalto University. Users of the network have limited access to the university’s internal services, such as the right to browse the library’s electronic materials.

Follow the instructions below to install eduroam on Aalto University’s devices.

General instructions

If you want to install eduroam on your own device, follow the instructions issued by the Eduroam organisation at

https://cat.eduroam.org

Windows 10

  1. Open the list of wireless connections and select eduroam.
  2. At item ‘ID’, type your email ID in the format [email protected] (or for certain individuals, [email protected]). The password to use is the password for the Aalto user ID.
  3. Press OK.
  4. A connection to the Eduroam network has been established.

In the future, Windows will remember your username and password when a connection is made. If you change your password, Windows will automatically ask for your new password when you want to connect to eduroam.

Mac computers

Eduroam runs automatically on Aalto University’s Mac computers. When you log in to eduroam, enter your user ID in the format [email protected] (or for certain individuals, [email protected]). The password to use is the password for the Aalto user ID.

If you want to install eduroam on your own Mac computer, follow the instructions issued by the Eduroam organisation at https://cat.eduroam.org.

Android and iPhone smartphones

  1. Open the list of wireless connections from your phone’s settings.
  2. In network connections, select eduroam.
  3. Type your Aalto email ID (in the format [email protected] or for certain individuals, [email protected]) at item ID, and the password for your own Aalto ID at item password.
  4. Press OK.
  5. Your smartphone has now been connected to the eduroam network.

Eduroam’s protected connection requires use of the Comodo_AAA_Services_root certificate. If you cannot find the certificate in your device, you can download the certificate bundle from here.

If Eduroam stops working in your phone, the reason might be an expired certificate. Remove or forget the connection, and you will receive a new certificate.
