Christer Nyman, Executive Director of ATY, presented the award during the Solar seminar at the Finnbuild fair, held at the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre. In her acceptance speech, Auvinen said the award was for everyone working in the FinSolar housing association pilot: ‘This recognition belongs to everyone in the project. This is a team effort, and many people have been involved in the project. Receiving this award, I am merely the face of the project.’
The solar award of 2018 was granted for Auvinen's work in the FinSolar project to promote solar energy in housing associations. Overall, Auvinen’s long-term work to promote solar energy in Finland was deemed worth recognition.
The results and policy recommendation of the FinSolar project were published in a breakfast event held at Aalto 30 August 2018, with extensive news coverage in Finnish media. This coverage led to journalists’ enquiries to Kimmo Tiilikainen, Finnish Minister of the Environment, Energy and Housing, who confirmed he would take the matter further to a legislative level.
ATY grants the solar energy award annually. The award is presented to a person, company, association or other entity that has acted to promote the visibility and use of solar energy in Finland.
