You are warmly welcome to join us at this year’s Ahtisaari Days, 15 November, at Aalto University to meet Nobel Peace Laureate and President Martti Ahtisaari and Artistic Director Marko Ahtisaari. A panel discussion in English on possibilities to design peace will follow, featuring experts on water management, social computing, and collaborative design, as well as CMI Chairman of the Board Alexander Stubb.

About the event

Ahtisaari Days are held yearly in November to help young people learn and practice conflict resolution, peace mediation and reconciliation. This year’s host city is Espoo and the public event, open to all, will be held at Aalto University. Read more about Ahtisaari Days.
 

Claudia Garduño García

Claudia Garduño García

Claudia Garduño García conducts research through design, implying the observation of ethical dilemmas in real life contexts, whose resolution is sought through collaborative design practices and pedagogical experiments. She is the founder and coordinator of the Aalto LAB Mexico project; nowadays she is a postdoctoral researcher in the Design Department of Aalto School of Arts, Design and Architecture, and the research director of Design Your Action.

Matti Nelimarkka

Matti Nelimarkka

Matti Nelimarkka is a social computing researcher at Aalto University. With a multidisciplinary background in social and computer sciences, his work focuses on digital interfaces for politics and politics of digital interfaces. Nowadays, he seeks to support democracy by integrating social science theories and methods from human-computer interaction research.

Alexander Stubb

Alexander Stubb

Alexander Stubb is the chairman of the board at CMI. He is also the Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, and former Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, and Foreign Minister of Finland.

Olli Varis

Olli Varis

Olli Varis holds the Matti Pursula Professorship in Water Resources Management. His research concentrates on sustainable development and water resources management in developing and emerging economies, particularly in Asia. He links water and sustainable development with sectors such as agriculture and energy, and with drivers such as climate change, urbanization, poverty, environment and economic development. He is Distinguished Adjunct Professor at Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.

Piia Kuosmanen

Piia Kuosmanen

CEO at Paragraaffi, Aalto University Alum

Piia Kuosmanen is a leader of the millennial generation: with a background in Information Networks at Aalto University, she has built a successful public campaign around clean energy, founded the startup event Slush in China, run coding workshops in Africa, and is currently the CEO of a fast-growing company Paragraaffi. She is interested in building social equity and preventing climate change through value-based leadership. She is a proud fan of cats, science fiction and good coffee.
