Instructions for Non-degree post master study right pilot participants (2025 Graduates)
If you have graduated during 2025 and applied for a non-degree post master study right in spring or autumn 2025 the information below is for you.
Who is eligible for non-degree study right?
Non-degree study right is granted to Masters of Arts, Architects and Landscape Architects who graduated from the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, who completed a master's degree at ARTS in less than 4 years or completed a bachelor's and master's degree at ARTS in less than 7 years AND graduated with a master's degree on or after 26th May 2025.
Non-degree post master study right is granted for the corresponding time that remains unused from the study right originally granted for completing the degree. However, no more than 2 years (4 semesters). The study right will be granted based on the unused whole semesters and it will be granted for whole semesters starting from the begginning of next semester after the graduation.
There are no tuition fees for non-degree students, and they are not members of the Aalto University Student Union.
For example:
- A student who graduated as a bachelor's and master's degree in the target period completed their degree in 5 years, they are granted 2 years (4 semesters) of non-degree student rights.
- A master's student completed their degree in 2.5 years, they are granted 1.5 years (3 semesters) of non-degree student rights
- A master's student completed their degree in 1.5 years, they are granted 2 years (4 semesters) of non-degree student rights
What is available for non-degree students?
A non-degree student can complete studies from a limited selection (see section 'What can I study as a non-degree student?' below) in their own programme/major, as well as certain studies open to ARTS alumni students.
Studies can be completed for a maximum of 30 credits per year.
Support and mentoring for transitioning to working life.
ARTS facilities and equipment can be used under the same conditions as degree students.
Career services offered to alumni students.
If you have graduated as a Master of Arts, Architect or Landscape Architect or are graduating on the 26 May, 2025 and the 31 July, 2025 graduation days, you will receive an email asking about your willingness to receive an non-degree student right and to participate in the pilot group of non-degree students. Follow the instructions provided in the email and a study right will be created for you for the period you are entitled to, depending on the duration of your studies.
PLEASE NOTE! Application for non-degree post master studies pilot has ended. Application instructions for masters who have graduated in target time after 1 Jan 2026 is published by the end of March 2026.
As a non-degree student, you are expected to be able to operate Aalto's systems independently and plan your post-degree studies independently. Student services are, available to you.

In addition, you may enrol in study modules open to non-degree students of your own major and programme.
Please note that some study modules may be filled up with degree students who have priority over non-degree students.
