Strategic planning and resourcing

In the beginning of the calendar year, the units self-assess their strategy implementation utilizing results and feedback from the previous year. These self-assessments are gathered together and reviewed as a whole by PMT in University review. The review generates guidelines with the board's instructions for the University Dialogue. The Dialogue focuses on setting the objectives for the upcoming year and deciding on the joint plan for the following three years. In the University Dialogue, PMT agrees on future activities and resources that are documented in the University's target agreement. The university budget is  approved by the University Board in June.

Early in the year the school has an annual review of operations and KPIs from the previous year. In the spring, the school also arranges departmental strategy meetings between the dean and the departments' heads to discuss strategic plans for the departments and in to prepare for setting targets for the departments and school.

The dean assembles the school´s strategic plan which includes quantitative and qualitative objectives and targets as well as proposals for tenure track professor slots. The dean agrees on guidelines for operations with the president and provost during a University Dialogue. As a result of the University Dialogue, the next years' plans, KPI targets, budget and developmental measures are documented in the University's target agreement.

Following the University target agreement between the president and the school, the dean forms the School agreement with departments on plans for the next year, KPI targets and development measures. The agreement includes updating the department's strategic plan.

In order to support the School management and preparations for decision-making, the key events for management and strategic planning are collected yearly in the annual clock of the School of Engineering.
