Centre of Excellence in Laser Scanning Research

Aalto University participates in the Centre of Excellence in Laser Scanning Research, where one of the participant research groups is led by Hannu Hyyppä from the Department of Built Environment. Other participants include the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute, the University of Oulu and the University of Helsinki.

Research Centre of Excellence in Arctic Shipping and Operations

The scope of the Research Centre of Excellence in Arctic Shipping and Operations (CEARCTIC) is the holistic treatment of design relevant features and their identification to advance safe arctic operations and transport.

CEARCTIC is headed by Aalto University in cooperation with three other universities; the University of Helsinki, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology NTNU (Trondheim) and Memorial University of Newfoundland (St. John's, Canada). The Centre will support eight doctoral dissertations on risk management in Arctic operations over a period of five years.

CEARCTIC is led by Professor Pentti Kujala and Professor Jukka Tuhkuri of the Aalto University School of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
