Professor Youzhu Yuan received Dr. Eng. from Nanjing Forest University in 1990 and Dr. Sci. from the University of Tokyo in 2000. He became a post-doctor in Prof. Khirui Tsai’s group of Xiamen University in 1990–1992. Shortly after he became a faculty member of Xiamen University, he joined in Prof. Yasuhiro Iwasawa’s group of Tokyo University as a visiting scholar and then as a JST research fellow (post-doctor) in the period of 1995–2000. He started his independent academic career in Xiamen University since 2000 as a full professor of catalysis division, Department of Chemistry at Xiamen University. He currently serves as the director of National Engineering Laboratory for Clean Productions of Alcohols-Ethers-Esters, and is also a senior research fellow in State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces and Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Energy Materials. He studies catalysis across heterogeneous and homogeneous systems, currently focusing on catalytic synthesis and transformation of non-petrol carbon resources. The target reactions include selective hydrogenation/hydrogenolysis, syngas conversion, and selective oxidation. He is the author and co-author of more than 160 peer-reviewed scientific publications. He has received several awards such as the second prize of natural sciences of Chinese Universities, the excellent and key teacher of MOE, the first prize of teaching achievements of Fujian Province, the second prize of teaching achievements of MOE, etc.
