The Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis at the School of Science is an international highly regarded academic community of more than 100 employees, with around 20 professors, 10 lecturers, 20 postdocs, and 60 doctoral candidates. Our department has a welcoming culture, nurturing innovativeness and communication among our international and diverse faculty.
The Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis is seeking two to four
Postdoctoral Researchers in Mathematical Analysis
to work under the supervision of Prof. Tuomas Hytönen and/or Prof. Riikka Korte.
Your role and research focus
You will conduct research in one or several of the following topics:
1. Commutators of singular integrals and pointwise multipliers (with Hytönen),
2. Poincaré inequalities and Sobolev-type spaces (with Hytönen and/or Korte),
3. Conformal deformations of metric measure spaces and/or general regularity and convergence for graph-based machine learning using stochastic game theory and theory of metric spaces (with Korte).
The positions are associated with Research Council of Finland projects Commutators, compactness, and application; Finnish Centre of Excellence in Randomness and Structures; and Geometric analysis, stochastics and partial differential equations, interactions and applications.
The starting date is flexible, preferably no later than September 2026. The positions are for a period of 1–2 years with a possible one-year extension. Considering different life situations, applications for a longer or a shorter contract with us are equally welcome.
Your experience
We expect you to have a PhD (or equivalent) degree in mathematics, a strong research background in analysis with emphasis on areas supporting one or several of the research topics above, and motivation to pursue research in the direction suggested by your chosen supervisor. Candidates expecting to graduate soon are eligible to apply, but the PhD degree will have to be completed before starting the contract.
Strong written and oral skills in English are necessary. We expect you to be fluent in mathematical expression and style, with the ability to transform your results into a professional-quality research article under minimal guidance.
Finnish language is not required, either for this position or for the daily life in Finland.
What we offer
We offer a diverse, international, and open research environment.
The initial gross salary is €4064/month, and the contract includes occupational health care.
There is funding for making conference and collaboration visits as well as inviting guests.
The positions are research-oriented with a possibility of a small teaching component (0–10% of annual working time) depending on the department’s needs and the postdoc’s wishes of gaining experience.
