Aalto University researchers once again achieved excellent results in the Research Council of Finland’s 2026 winter call. The funding awarded to Aalto University by the Research Council strengthens the university’s research by 33.2 million euros. A total of 54 Aalto researchers received funding.

The overall result is Aalto University’s best since the call was renewed in 2022. Aalto researchers received more funding than before, particularly in the fields of natural sciences and engineering. Aalto University was awarded as much as 38 percent of all Academy Research Fellow funding in the natural sciences and engineering.

This autumn, 25 new Academy Research Fellows will begin at Aalto. The total funding awarded to Aalto University for these positions amounts to 17.2 million euros.

In addition, the university’s researchers are involved in 29 different Academy projects, for which Aalto University has been awarded a total of 16 million euros in funding.

Both Academy Research Fellow and Academy Project grants are for four years.

It is delighting to see that both Academy Research Fellow and Academy Project grants were secured in all six Schools of Aalto University. The research topics span from basic research to more applied research.

Congratulations to all grant recipients!

Below, you will find all new Academy Research Fellows and Academy Projects at Aalto. In the listing, after the recipient, there are names of the department and project. Unfortunately, some of the project names are in Finnish or Swedish only.
