Open University studies for upper secondary students

Applications to Aalto University’s Finnish- and Swedish-language bachelor’s programmes totalled 23,470 in the second joint application to higher education, which ended on 24 March. Of the 15,184 applicants, 9,735 had set one of Aalto’s study options as their first choice. A total of about 2,000 study places are available in the Finnish- and Swedish-language bachelor’s programmes.

Compared to 2025, the number of applications to Aalto University increased by over three percent in the spring’s second joint application.
A total of 1,474 applicants applied to the 14 study options in the field of arts, of whom 1,196 were first-choice applicants. In the field of arts, the most popular study option was Art Education, which received a total of 216 applications. A total of 866 applicants, of whom 443 were first-choice applicants applied to the architecture and landscape architecture study options.
The Bachelor’s Programme in Business (Kauppatieteiden kandidaattiohjelma) received 8,138 applications, and 6,472 of the in total 7,818 applicants had set this programme as their first choice.
In the field of technology there are altogether 15 study options (excluding the architecture study options), to which Aalto received a total of 12,997 applications. There were 6,363 applicants, and of them 3,578 were first-choice applicants. The most popular study option was Energy and Mechanical Engineering, which received a total of 1,540 applications.
The revised scoring for certificate-based admission was used for the first time in the spring joint application that has now concluded. Results for certificate-based admission will be published by 25 May 2026 at the latest, and results for entrance examination admission by 2 July 2026 at the latest.
Entrance exams in the fields of arts and architecture will be held on Aalto University’s campus in Otaniemi. For the fields of business and technology, the closest exam location to Aalto is Messukeskus in Helsinki. All candidates taking entrance exams are advised to read the instructions carefully and allow plenty of time to arrive at the exam venue.
