Panu Mustakallio has been appointed Professor of Practice in HVAC Technology

Panu Mustakallio, D.Sc. (Tech.), has been appointed as Professor of Practice in the field of  HVAC technology. The five-year term of the appointment begins on 1 June 2022.  The position is located at Aalto University's Department of Mechanical Engineering, Energy Efficiency and Systems research group.

At the same time, Mustakallio will continue in his main job as Manager, Systems at Halton Oy, where he is be responsible for his part for the technological and solution development of commercial buildings in areas such as indoor climate, air distribution, ventilation, airflow management and heating and cooling systems.

Panu Mustakallio is an inspiring teacher whose experience in HVAC research and development and comprehensive connections with companies in the field open up interesting perspectives for our students in the multidisciplinary and an important field,' says Gary Marquis, Dean of the School of Engineering.

Panu Mustakallio has extensive experience in HVAC teaching, research and development. He has been a visiting lecturer and mentor for doctoral and master's students both in Finland and abroad. He has strong connections with companies in the industry and various actors in society. He has led several research projects in the HVAC sector, including six research projects funded by Business Finland.

Mustakallio defended his dissertation on HVAC technology and indoor climate technology at Aalto University in 2018. The dissertation investigated the operation of indoor climate systems based on air flow, radiation and their combination in relation to the thermal conditions of the premises.

He is the author of nearly a hundred publications, including 17 peer-reviewed scientific articles, and is a reviewer of manuscripts in several international scientific publications in the field.

Professor of practice positions are fixed in term and part-time in nature, intended to bring in leaders and experts from companies or the public sector to act as developers and bridge builders between the university and relevant industries. The job profile is weighted toward teaching.
