Otaranta closed to motor vehicle traffic as of week 27
In addition to building the light rail, all of the road structures are going to be renewed, including pedestrian and cycling routes. Road construction will also require plenty of municipal engineering cabling and pipework to be transferred and replaced as well as soil improvement before the street and rail structures can be put into place. A new pumping station and water supply system will be constructed and reinforcements carried out in Otaranta.
Motor vehicle through-traffic to Otaranta will be cut off for approximately five months starting from week 27. Because the western section of Otaranta will be closed, the bulk of passenger traffic will move to Luolamiehentie. You should prepare for extended travel time on routes running through Otakaari and Luolamiehentie, especially during morning and afternoon peak times. Pedestrian and bicycle access will remain on Otaranta throughout the construction project, but routes will be rerouted on the roadside according to different stages of construction. According to preliminary estimates, the work on Otaranta will continue until autumn 2021.
Work will primarily be carried out between 7 am and 6 pm on weekdays. We may perform some less noisy work in the evenings between 6 and 10 pm, at weekends and on mid-week holidays.
Jokeri Light Rail will start operation in June 2024.
