Intercultural Communication

“LC-0610 Intercultural Communication” is open for all levels of students

Are you interested in exploring ‘culture’ from a different perspective? Are you interested in understanding ‘intercultural communication (ICC)’ beyond making assumptions about people just based on their nationality? LC-0610 is designed for you who want to build up critical awareness and effective communication skills to become an ethical intercultural communicator working in a diverse workplace.

We will start by discussing how to unpack the term, ‘culture’ that we use for pretty much everything. Why? Because ‘culture’ is one of the most notoriously complicated concepts in English (more than you expected)! Then, we will gradually expand our learning by exploring a range of interesting topics (e.g. ‘stereotyping’, ‘culture shock & reverse culture shock’, ‘facework’, ‘non-verbal communication’)

This course is composed of lectures as well as small group discussions, so you will be able to have lots of interesting discussions with your peers having diverse backgrounds.

Registration for the course is open between 9th-30th December. All levels of TECH, ARTS and BIZ students are welcome! To sign up for the courses, please check the following Sisu link:

Swedish

Hej!

Studies in Swedish for the needs of working life continue in period III! Choose the study method that suits you best and learn how to communicate in Swedish. Vi ses på kurserna!

If you have Finnish as your mother tongue/school education language you can start by taking an entry-level test to identify the right course and study method for you.

You can find the test in MyCourses by using search words "ruotsin lähtötasotesti + ENG, CHEM, ELEC, SCI, ARTS tai BIZ" depending on your field of study.

You can only take the test once, so please take your time and do the test carefully and thoughtfully from start to finish.

Please note that the teachers that are responsible for courses and exams will check the accuracy of your test score in MyCourses before confirming registrations. Therefore, to save resources, please be honest when registering in Sisu about your score on the entry level test.

One period course, test result 25+

Two period courses, test result 16–24.

FLEX groups (LC-5004) for students with identified learning challenges, e.g. dyslexia or anxiousness related to group situations and speaking in public etc. are organized in periods IV-V.
