Dean Tuomas Auvinen started his term

The new Dean of School of Arts, Design and Architecture started yesterday, 11 March.

Tuomas Auvinen (born 1968) has broad experience in demanding leadership roles at arts institutions. He has served as the Dean of the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts and Rector of Sibelius Academy, as well as Executive Director of the Finnish National Theatre and CEO of the Association of Finnish Theatres, amongst other positions.

He has completed his dissertation on arts policy and management at City University of London. He has also earned an Executive MBA from the Helsinki School of Economics.  

'In the recent years the School of Arts, Design and Architecture has become one of the leading schools in its fields. It is a great honour to get to continue and further this development. Creativity will play an important role in solving the big societal challenges in the future. The Shool of Arts, Design and Architecture and the whole Aalto University can be at the forefront of increasing the role of creativity in the society,' said Auvinen when appointed.

Tuomas Auvinen is hoping to meet as many new colleagues as possible in the coming weeks.
