Arto Hellas receives the Nokia Foundation teaching recognition award

Nokia Foundation celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. In honour of this milestone, the foundation, together with the OKKA Foundation for Teaching, Education and Personal Development, presented its first-ever teaching recognition award. The award was granted to Arto Hellas, a senior university lecturer in computer science at Aalto University, for his significant contributions in reforming information and communication technology (ICT) education and developing new courses and digital learning platforms.

‘Dr. Arto Hellas has made a significant impact in an area we all recognize as vital for securing Finland’s future competitiveness. High-quality and inspiring teaching produces the experts of tomorrow for both academia and industry. Today, we wish to honour one of the builders of Finland’s future and highlight his persistent and innovative work in advancing ICT education,’ said Mikko Uusitalo, Chair of the Board of Nokia Foundation.

Nokia Foundation awarded its 2025 recognition award to Professor Minna Palmroth from the University of Helsinki for her pioneering work in the field of space sciences, positioning Finland as a leading country in the field.

Over 30 years, Nokia Foundation has distributed more than 2,000 grants, with a total value exceeding 11.5 million euros. In 2025, the Foundation will grant scholarships and awards totalling approximately 480,000 euros.
