Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture is hosting its second summer school in August

Second summer school course Living with wood(s) (6ECTS) focuses on sustainable ways of using wood, timber and forests. The focus of the course will be in exploring forest and wood in it’s varying appearances in scales of landscape architecture, urban design, building design and interior architecture. We’ll also study the importance of forest with a wide scope from biodiversity and production of ecosystem services to economically managed forests and wood building processes and the ethics related to it. The application period for the course is open until April 21st.

An intensive, two-week summer school  course will be held 6.8.-18.8.2023 at the Otaniemi campus, preceded by a pre-course symposium on 25.5.2023 and independent studies during the summer. The responsible teacher of the course is the professor of wood architecture Pekka Heikkinen, and lecturers will also arrive from the summer school partner universities. The course is designed in partnership with the partner universities: The New School: Parsons School of Design, The Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Singapore University of Technology and Design, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Politecnico di Milano, Royal College of Art, École nationale supérieure de paysage, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and Delft University of Technology. 5-7 students from each school will be chosen to attend the course.

This year the summer school is open to 3rd year BA- and MA-students from the fields of architecture, urban design and planning, landscape architecture, interior architecture, engineering, bio product technology, design, 10-15 of whom will be selected to attend the course.
