The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC) has awarded Aalto University its Quality Label for ExcellenceAccording to FINEEC, Aalto has demonstrated an innovative pioneering spirit, an approach that focuses on long-term enhancement, and a participatory operational culture. The university's societal and global responsibility and its strong future-led orientation impressed the evaluation panel.

‘We greatly appreciate this Excellence recognition for our long-term quality work. Warm thanks to the entire Aalto University community for doing valuable work for continuous development and impact of our operations,’ says Aalto University President Ilkka Niemelä.

Aalto University passed the quality system audit conducted by the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre FINEEC (Karvi) in 2023 and was awarded a quality label for six years.  Aalto was the first higher education institution in Finland to receive the level ‘excellent’ from all three evaluation areas, and all these areas were now granted the excellence label.

The Quality Label for Excellence can be granted to a higher education institution audited by FINEEC in recognition of the exceptional quality in the development of its activities. The assessment is carried out by an evaluation panel appointed for this purpose.

The FINEEC panel says, that Aalto University has long-term and ambitious goals for societal impact. Three clear cross-cutting approaches and seven key research areas are visible in all activities, and they steer the choices made. With a continuous and living strategy process, Aalto University responds to changing societal challenges. The university has several examples of how it contributes to reforming society from different viewpoints. Societal engagement and impact are also supported by university-wide evaluation work.

As strengths, FINEEC mentioned Aalto's experimentation culture, involvement of stakeholders, promotion of entrepreneurship and innovation, internationalisation, business cooperation and development of educational activities, among others.
