A team of students mapped out potential acquisitions for Transmeri Logistics

Students of the School of Business carried out a project for Transmeri Logistics to map out potential company acquisitions in the field of technical chemistry

Aalto University's School of Business students Sebastian Mertaniemi (finance), Venla Salminen (International Design Business Management) and Lucas Tepponen (accounting) created a comprehensive acquisition project for Oy Transmeri Logistics Ab. The aim of the project was to identify potential acquisition and collaboration targets that would support Transmeri Group's ambitious growth strategy. The academic advisor for the project tailored for Transmeri was Panu Routila, Professor of Practice at the School of Business and an experienced business executive.

The student team systematically reviewed a wide range of companies in the tech-chemical industry using various databases. The strategic suitability of the companies was assessed based on factors such as financial profile, product range, and production capability. After several screening phases, the most promising target companies were selected, and a more detailed analysis was carried out, including synergy and integration possibilities, as well as potential risks.

Regular meetings ensured the project progressed in the right direction

The success of the project was supported by the students' close communication with Transmeri representatives. Regular meetings ensured that the work progressed in the right direction and provided students with the opportunity to leverage Transmeri's in-depth industry expertise to support their analysis.

'The customer was active during the process and clearly interested in the progress of the project. We had highly useful discussions about the project's development during the meetings,' commented Sebastian Mertaniemi.

'The project offered a unique opportunity to apply my analysis and finance skills in practice and to work closely with company management. It was particularly valuable to see how academic research and business needs can be combined into a concrete tool to support the company's growth,' said Venla Salminen.

Lucas Tepponen shares his teammates' thoughts. 'The project was a unique learning experience. Our team's diverse areas of expertise complemented each other, and good cooperation with Transmeri deepened our understanding of how analysis can be utilised in practical business decisions.'

The project's academic advisor, Panu Routila, is also very pleased with the project. 'The project's definition was exactly the kind that fits particularly well as a student project. It is always nice to collaborate with motivated students and demanding customers.'

Project results support Transmeri Group's growth strategy

Transmeri representatives appreciated the project's results and the students' work. 'We are extremely satisfied with the outcome of the project. The team's work was active and the students brought up interesting perspectives and useful analysis,' says Mikael Sjögren, CEO of Oy Transmeri Logistics Ab at the time.

The project's results support Transmeri Group's growth strategy and provide the company with concrete tools for strategic decision-making. According to Transmeri Group CEO Kari Leimola, the student team’s analysis was very comprehensive and high-quality. 'The analysis models defined by the student team will also be utilised in similar projects in the future.'

'Informative and high-quality analysis will be concretely used to support our company's strategic decision-making,' confirms Milla Ratia, Chairman of the Board of Oy Transmeri Logistics Ab.
