Edge investigates the commercialisation potential of new manufacturing methods drastically reducing the material and production costs of electrodes utilised in the generation of green hydrogen through water electrolysis.
Edge’s hardware innovation is grounded on a decade of R&D performed at Aalto University. It directly addresses the main bottlenecks slowing the rollout of green hydrogen infrastructure underlined by industry and large institutions such as the International Energy Agency or the European Commission. Those bottlenecks include the high levelized cost of green hydrogen compared to hydrogen generated through fossil routes, and the reliance on scarce resources such as platinum group metals that undermine national or regional material resilience.
Through the reduction of electrode CAPEX, the simplification of membrane-electrode assembly manufacturing, the reduced need for precious metals and the increase in sustainability, EDGE supports the competitiveness of green hydrogen.
