The industrial sector accounts for 25% of total energy consumption in the EU, yet 30% of this energy is wasted also due to outdated control systems. Smart factories face growing challenges, including volatile energy prices, equipment wear, and fluctuating production demands. External disruptions—such as geopolitical instability and extreme weather—further reduce efficiency. The shift towards Manufacturing-as-a-Service (MaaS) requires real-time, adaptive energy management, but traditional systems cannot optimize distributed energy loads, leading to costly downtime, lost revenue, and missed FCR market opportunities.
DEUS (Distributed energy utilization system) is a modular AI-powered energy management system designed for both IT and OT layers. It integrates directly into PLCs through an AI-driven module that analyzes production data and existing PLC code to generate autonomous energy agents. These agents negotiate real-time energy consumption, optimizing efficiency while ensuring process stability. DEUS is deployable in both cloud and on-premises environments without external data sharing, making it secure and scalable.
With DEUS, smart factories can reduce energy expenses by up to 36%, translating to potential annual savings of $365 million It also enables FCR market participation even during downtime and provides seamless MaaS support. Additionally, DEUS advances sustainability goals by prioritizing renewable energy consumption, making it a future-proof solution for industrial energy optimization.
