Morteza Shiripour's thesis contributes to the optimization of the graphical user interface (GUI). These interfaces permit interaction with graphical components rather than pure command lines. Improving the efficacy and utility of an interaction requires a well-designed GUI. Currently, building graphical user interfaces is mostly a manual, time-consuming, and difficult process, and the quality of the final product is highly dependent on the skill of the designers. Moreover, the numerous design options make manual design challenging.
The primary focus of the thesis is on models and algorithms that can be utilized to automate some steps of the GUI design process. In one way, the final layout design is developed using a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm. The second method employs a deep neural network to evaluate the aesthetic appeal of web pages. This network permits the designer to predict how different demographic groups will evaluate the designed web page. Finally, a novel mathematical model for menu systems was designed, implemented, and empirically evaluated to determine the efficacy of various designs. As a result of these suggested models and algorithms, the performance of a GUI design can be improved significantly.
