What are Online Teaching Excellence Seminars?
Online Teaching Excellence Seminars (TES) are a series of online meetings focused on live teaching practices in universities. Here, experienced academics, researchers, and people responsible for teaching quality, introduce their audience to excellent examples of effective teaching practices, with the goals of
- Encouraging academic teachers to reflect on their philosophy of teaching
- Learning about different possible solutions to teaching problems,
- Combining with educators’ own principles and concepts while maintaining meaning and significance for students.
TES aims to go beyond teaching methods of specific subjects, and instead invites participants to reflect on common issues such as sustainable development, digital and green transformation, or building inclusive communities.
About Tomi Kauppinen
Tomi Kauppinen is a versatile author and academic known for his work in cognitive systems, AI, information visualization and online learning. He is passionate about using storytelling, visuals, augmented realities, and AI to enhance our understanding of the world. Before earning his PhD, he designed visualization apps for international companies, followed by postdoc, professorship and Privatdozent positions in Germany. Tomi is a community builder, keynote speaker, educator, and the host of Cloud Reachers podcast on Spotify. He aspires to create engaging learning experiences, inspire valuable mindsets, and shape an exciting future as head of Aalto Online Learning at Aalto University.
