Meet the Professor Annukka Santasalo-Aarnio - Sustainable renewable energy
In our events, we are committed to Aalto University’s principles for a safer space.
We are transiting towards renewable energy, but how can we ensure that the transition is sustainable?
Are we going from the fossil lock into the material lock in and how can this be avoided?
Welcome to meet Annukka Santasalo-Aarnio, an Associate Professor at Aalto University’s Department of Energy and Mechanical Engineering.
Bio:
Annukka Santasalo-Aarnio's research field is energy conversion and storage, and her team focus is on circular design of energy devices, thermal energy storage systems and materials, electrolytic hydrogen production and storage, as well as safe handling of end-of-life batteries. She currently has a team of 15 eager, multidisciplinary researchers who are rethinking the new technologies and processes that we are implementing for energy storage. She was also appointed as the leader of Aalto University House of Energy Transition that fosters multidisciplinary research initiatives in Aalto.
She has obtained “Education action of the year” award from both School of ENG 2020 and School of CHEM 2017.
She obtained her PhD on electrochemistry from Aalto University School of Chemical Engineering in 2012. Her postdoctoral work she carried out the Department of Material Science and Metallurgy in a Horizon 2020 project on Solar to Hydrogen (Sol2Hy2), where she was responsible for the development of a SO2 depolarized electrolyser and complete process integration. She obtained a University Teacher position on circular economy and material science in 2015. She was appointed as assistant professor position for Department of Mechanical engineering in 2018.
Please prepare to meet professor Annukka Santasalo-Aarnio and to ask about her research on the sustainable renewable energy by watching a 10-minute video:
