Press release:
Three-nitride (III-N) materials have been widely introduced into our everyday lives. They are used in modern lighting sources like light emitting diodes and in high-mobility electron transistors. Developing the fabrication methods and device performance can cut the energy loss in modern electronics. However, devices based on III-N suffer from numerous problems at all stages of their production.
In this dissertation, several approaches for fabrication and design optimization were developed to improve III-N based devices. The first part focuses on solving issues in the choice of substrate for III-N materials. The second part focuses on improvements in device design for light emitting diodes. And finally, the third part consists of studies of metallization and electrical characterization of III-N based devices. These results show that the developed materials and methods can be used for III-N based device fabrication and improve their performance.
