In this talk, Prof. Talya Miron-Shatz will discuss the background for patient empowerment in consumer trends and in medical practice. Then, she will talk about the related challenges – how to really get people to be involved with their health and take care of themselves using digital tools. Many of these psychological barriers can be overcome with design and programming.

Short bio: Prof. Talya Miron-Shatz has a PhD in psychology from Hebrew University. She did her post-doc at Princeton University with Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman and taught at the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania. Her research focus is in medical decision-making, patient empowerment, and digital health. She has written over 50 academic papers on these topics and gained considerable industry experience, working with corporations, startups, pharmaceutical companies, and health advertisers. For several years, she ran the eHealth Venture Summit and Innovation Award at MEDICA, the world’s largest medical device exhibition.

Prof. Miron-Shatz is an Associate Professor at the Ono Academic College, Israel, and a Visiting Professor at the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Information, Cambridge University
