Quantum advantage in finite-time thermodynamics and its fundamental limit
Prof. Ken Funo (The University of Tokyo)
Abstract: In finite-time thermodynamics, a central objective is to achieve high-speed operation with low energetic cost. Here, we derive a thermodynamic trade-off relation that incorporates the effect of quantum coherence and show that coherence can improve the performance of thermodynamic devices. We then introduce a symmetry-based framework to discuss the fundamental limit of this quantum improvement. Finally, we discuss an experimental proposal of a quantum heat engine using a circuit QED platform that provides nonzero output power while asymptotically approaching the Carnot efficiency.
