Advancing quantum science with hybrid atom arrays

Abstract: Neutral atoms in optical tweezer arrays are a promising platform for quantum computation and simulation, yet important challenges remain in realizing large-scale fault-tolerant quantum operations. In this talk, I present the progress toward a hybrid dual-species architecture that combines long-coherence ¹⁷¹Yb nuclear-spin qubits with collectively enhanced ⁸⁷Rb ensembles acting as ancillas to address these limitations. Both species are independently prepared and transported via a movable optical lattice into a dedicated science region, where hybrid atom arrays are formed, enabling reconfigurable local control, EIT-based fast non-destructive readout, and repeated quantum error syndrome extraction. As a key step toward this architecture, we develop high-resolution spectroscopy of Yb–Rb Rydberg states in spatially overlapping atomic clouds and observe, for the first time, a Förster resonance via Stark tuning of selected pair-state energies. These results establish a basis for engineering interspecies interactions and open a pathway toward scalable, fault-tolerant neutral-atom quantum computation.
