We educate future leaders and entrepreneurs

We deliver the bachelor's and master's programmes in Industrial Engineering and Management and Information Networks (the latter jointly with the Department of Computer Science). We also teach business, leadership, sales and operations management to engineering students throughout Aalto University, offer courses in technology entrepreneurship as well as personal development and practical philosophy to all Aalto University students, and are a key contributor to lifewide learning.

Our students and alumni are co-founders or early investors in many of the most successful startups from Finland over the past 20+ years, including almost all of the Finnish unicorns, and they have contributed substantially to the growth of these companies. For example, Relex was founded by two PhD students and a recent graduate from our Industrial Engineering and Management programme, and our alumni had key roles in scaling Wolt across cities and countries.

Many of our alumni are in leadership positions with job titles such as CEO, CIO, CTO, or COO, and they actively contribute to the competitiveness and renewal of Finland. They are also often experts on renewing organisations acting in consulting or advisory roles. They also serve in leadership or expert roles in public-sector organisations, including ministries and government agencies like Business Finland, cities and municipalities, or the Finnish Defence Forces.

As department faculty, we are working closely with our students and alumni. We collaborate with Prodeko, the guild of the students of Industrial Engineering and Management and Athene, the guild of the students of Information Networks, as well as the respective alumni organisations.
