Cellulose Functionalization
This project aims to develop a modular one-/two-step platform that pre-activates cellulose with triazinium salts and uses N-heterocyclic leaving groups to graft dyes, amino acids, and biopolymers—enabling durable colouration and functional coatings.
The functionalization strategy involves two different pathways: a two-step method where cellulose is first preactivated and then reacted with nucleophiles, and a one-step process using direct activators that simplify the reaction by eliminating the preactivation stage.
