Rehevöityminen/Eutrophication

In written truth we tend to trust. Via poem the eutrophication-typeface tells a story of the Baltic for which the eutrophication is one of the main threats. It is caused by excessive inputs of nutrients and causes elevated levels of algal and plant growth, turbidity, oxygen depletion, changes in species composition and nuisance blooms of algae. The typeface resembles bladderwrack and it is inspired by Finnish artist Eric O.W. Ehrströms nature-themed typography in 1901. This time the typeface is digital and changing, as is the Baltic. At first everything was clear and easy to understand, but over time the letters became mushy and the poem outgrew.

Uusi vanheni, kiiltävä himmeni, kynnet tippuivat pohjaan. Meri kasvoi täyteen heinää, lisää leikkauksia. Veden kimmel sammui, yrtit lakastui, nurkat tihentyi levään ja rikkaan.

At first everything was so new, shiny, fresh manicure nails, healed cosmetic surgeries.
Corners bathing in sea light and dill, sprouting.
Then days, weeks, deserted water organs, February, saduary, eutrophication...
New got old, shiny faded, nails fell off. The ocean grew into wet salad. More cuts.
The aqua beauty dim, corners thickened into thyme and dill.
