This project was about figuring out that does growing medium’s fibers effect to the growth speed of mycelium and to the properties of the final composite

The idea to study this started from looking at mycelium composite images. Through the images, I began to wonder whether the fibrous structure of the growth medium has been studied. And does it have effect on the properties of the resulting material. I did not quickly find a direct answer to the question. So, from that I decided to study it a bit.

I decided to test five different fiber structures and I made a few samples of each. I observed the growth of different samples and compared them to one another. I let the mycelium grow for 16 days, after which I dried the samples in oven. I tested the properties of the materials by sawing and breaking them by hand. I made a video of this part. It describes the properties of the different materials created.
