Through what filter do we perceive cleanliness? The photo exhibition Baltic Bath takes it literally and invites unknowing visitors to the bathrooms around Väre to closely inspect our own filters, basins and daily washing rituals. Advertised as a realm of purity, the reality in the sea looks quite the opposite. Where we deem clean as empty – a clean ocean thrives in plenty. What now when the rituals swap places?

Rain, the ocean, and algae become our bathroom, our oasis of purity, while sea life floods our tiled temples at home by making us look at the ugly truth of how we pollute our environment with disregard to consequences further down the stream. Challenging our concept of cleanliness and pollution with these invasive images pose the question: When does spa feeling turn to disgust?
