白 by Zhonglei Li

(Pronounce: Bai/Meaning: hollow)
A collection of drop like looking glass objects, some of them empty, some containing pine needles or colour

"白" signifies the color white. It also embodies the concepts of purification, lucidity, and a pure, crystalline clarity. Beyond that, "白" represents a deliberate act of cleansing, akin to a pristine spring of unblemished clarity. It denotes a state of absolute emptiness, paradoxically coexisting with a profound sense of completeness, unfolding with an eloquent simplicity.

To appreciate the simplicity of the natural world and embrace us as unique as humans, I named my project “白”(Bai), which means nothing and everything as well in Chinese character.

I blow glass to stand for little creatures and explore different material combinations, it was nothing inside when it was born, then variety becomes the spice of life, their inner space defines their existence, and then they become everything.

Stepping into the pure white world, absorbing myself into that extraordinary nature. I found myself becoming part of nature, what could we be when we no longer live in a city? Can we be part of nature? Can nature be part of me, from inside to outside? I jumped from clay to glass to have a taste of fast speed and see uncertainty, the results came far away from expectations, it seems that glass has consciousness, coming alive, it is expressing itself, we are working together happily, we belong to this destiny.

Medium: porcelain, borosilicate glass, photography
