"We were given classic Finnish design pieces to be used as materials. Our initial hesitation to act on those pieces served as the concept for our work. When does material become a ‘holy’ design item? Where do we draw the line? Can this be undone? Those questions came naturally as we tortured the iconic Artek stools: hammering them with stones to create a new surface, spraying on colors, recombining and adding new elements. No matter how much we worked on it, in the end, we had a piece that still reflected its origins."
