The Phi-Lab consortium, developed and funded by the European Space Agency ESA, aims to commercialise space technology. In Finland, the consortium is coordinated by Aalto University, and it involves the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the National Land Survey of Finland and the University of Vaasa.

ESA Phi-Lab Finland supports new space-related innovations in satellite positioning and in the production and utilisation of satellite data – from satellites all the way to services used by end users. The call is open for new innovations that make use of data and technologies obtained from space.

The six-year project has funding of 5.2 million euros, of which 4.4 million euros is allocated directly to financial support for selected projects. The total operating budget is about 11 million euros, funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and Phi-Lab Finland’s partners, the Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation, the KAUTE Foundation, the Weisell Foundation and the Amer Culture Foundation.
