The first Family Day event of the School of Electrical Engineering will take place on 15 September 2018

The School of Electrical Engineering organises a Family Day for its personnel and alumni on Saturday 15 September 2018 at 13 – 17. The programme has something to offer for everyone. The entry is free-of-charge.

There will be as many as nine workshops for children, such as making electricity from lemons, acquainting the children with the wonderful world of electricity and programming an Android application for a smartphone. The programme also contains short information bulletins about current issues such as cyber security, smart buildings and space technology. Furthermore, there will be presentations suitable for everyone on topics such as ‘Is it worthwhile to buy an electric car?’ and ‘Let’s sort out the smartphone’s information security settings´. For the little ones, and perhaps even older visitors, there will be a construction corner for compiling a sundial in the style of making paper dolls.

The event will also be marketed to upper secondary school pupils and their study counsellors in Helsinki, Espoo and Kauniainen, in the hope of receiving more applications to our school. Upper secondary school pupils can also receive information about our bachelor’s and master’s programmes, and the departments will organise demos and set up information desks. Visitors from upper secondary schools can naturally listen to the information bulletins and participate in the workshops, too.

There will also be police cars and fire engines for everyone to view. To top it all off, you can test drive an electric car: approximately ten electric cars of different makes from Tesla to Volkswagen will be available for testing.

The event will take place at Maarintie 8. There will be coffee, tea and small snacks for guests of all ages. Children will be served ice cream and ice lollies.

A more detailed programme including registration information will be published in the middle of August 2018, but it is a good idea to mark Saturday 15 September 2018 in your family calendar already now. The concept of family is not specified in more detail, and so it can mean anything from alumni with parents, spouses, children or grandchildren to some other group of people that can be interpreted as a family, or you can come by yourself.
