Professor Olli Ikkala wins Dutch Polymer Science award

The annual PTN Medema Lecture award is granted to a renowned international polymer scientist
Olli Ikkala.

Aalto University Professor, Olli Ikkala has received the prestigious Medema award prize in Lunteren, Netherlands, at the Dutch Polymer Days conference on the 25th March. The PTN Medema Lecture aware is granted to a prolific scientist who interacts with or has close ties to the Dutch polymer science community, and has been of great merit to PTN, the Dutch graduate school of Polymer science & technology.

Professor Ikkala is the leader of the Molecular Materials research group in the department of Applied Physics. He is also the director of the HYBER Center of Excellence. His group’s research focuses on producing functional materials based on hierarchical self-assemblies and biomimetics – trying to replicate structures and processes that occur in nature – for example attempting to replicate the processes that produce pearl and silk.
