Synthetic Biology Reverse Pitch Competition Kick-Off

From waste to wealth - Microbes to the rescue! Can microbes turn waste into useful products, can we purify water with new biopolymers? Or feed old rugs to microbes?

Synbio Powerhouse Reverse Pitch 20.3.2019 -tapahtuman mainos

The first synthetic biology reverse pitch competition in Finland is launched on 20 March 2019.

Student teams will use synthetic biology to solve real-life challenges presented by Ikea, Neste, Kemira and St1. After the kick off the students will have 2 months to come up with their ideas for solutions at the Finals 27.5.2019. Interested in joining the competition? Read More here

Synthetic biology is a new rapidly developing technology that enables us to engineer microbes for useful purposes. It is especially useful in circular economy applications as microbes are able to turn waste into valuable raw materials.

Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland has listed synthetic biology as one of the future drivers for economic growth. It is important that we now accelerate innovations, startup companies and industry renewal with synthetic biology.

The competition is organized by Aalto University CYSS Center for Young Synbio Scientists, Synbio Powerhouse, VTT and Sitra Fund.
