Aalto Test Site transformed its outdoor area into a summer pop-up, non-profit café that offered a relaxed and affordable place to unwind, spend time with friends, and enjoy the Finnish summer. The café made use of existing infrastructure such as the Field Kitchen, along with picnic tables, foraged furniture, and reused materials. The aim was to create an inviting, accessible, and sustainable third space on campus, built around circular economy principles.
Throughout the summer and fall 2025, volunteers served drinks and snacks for the Aalto community and visiting guests. The infrastructure acquired for the project has continued to support monthly café events during the year, providing opportunities to bring people together and spark conversations around sustainability. The project introduced a new outdoor gathering space that combined community, nature, and everyday sustainable practices.
