Activating administrator rights on Mac workstations
User accounts have standard user privileges. For administrative tasks, a tool called Privileges, can be installed from Managed Software Centre. Privileges will give you admin rights, including use of sudo, for 15 minutes at a time. After installing, launch Privileges from Applications. A reason and authentication are required before privileges are granted. Stated reason is logged and may be used for possible troubleshooting.
Search for Privileges in Managed Software Center and install it. The application stays in the Mac, so you do the installation only once.
Launch Privileges.
Activate admin privileges.
Enter the reason for admin rights.
The right revert back to regular user after 15 minutes. If you still need admin rights, just launch Privileges again.
If Privileges is in the Dock, you can see from its icon if the admin rights are active: lock is open and background is orange.
