Masaru OGURA

Dr. Masaru Ogura was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969. He obtained his degree of Bachelor of Engineering in the Department of Applied Chemistry, Waseda University in 1993, and completed successively his Doctor degree at the same university under the supervision of Professor Eiichi Kikuchi in 1998. In the group, he worked on developing a bifunctional zeolite catalyst for purification of exhaust using methane as a reducing agent of SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction). During the days he started some projects on synthesizing zeolite under the guidance of Professor Masahiko Matsukata. He joined to the group of Professors Yusaku Takita and Tatsumi Ishihara in Oita University in 2001, and after that he got a faculty position in the Department of Chemical System Engineering, The University of Tokyo, as a research associate working with Professors Hiroshi Takahashi and Tatsuya Okubo, on the subjects related with environmental, resource, and energy issues, along with researches on synthesizing zeolites and mesoporous materials. From 2004, he obtained his position in the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo, as an associate professor. In the institute he has his own group named Environmental Catalysis and Materials Science.

Dr. Ogura has been awarded the young researchers’ awards in the Catalysis Society of Japan (2007) and the Japan Petroleum Institute (2008) during the days. The researches of Dr. Ogura has long dedicated to the scientific fields of catalysis, materials preparation, and analysis, especially the catalysis on environmental issues such as automobile exhausts by utilization of zeolitic natures. Very recently he was assigned as a group head leader of fabrication of novel zeolite catalyst in the joint collaborative research on clean diesel mobiles, AICE, with eight Japanese automobile companies. His main interest lies on the application of zeolites to a new field of science.
