My research revolves around interactive technologies, how humans relate to them, how we design them and how they might change everyday practices and future society. I have investigated a wide range of technologies – from the web to automotive – and practices – from dress cultures to software engineering. I explore embodied technological experiences and technology-mediated social practices. My doctoral research highlighted how wearable technologies shape our social-cultural clothing practices. I primarily use generative design research and qualitative fieldwork, and my methods include research through design in everyday living worlds and participatory design. My recent work adapts concepts from critical futures studies to practice-based research to incorporate anticipation in technology innovation. Additionally, I investigate values and ideologies in digital technologies through codesign at the University of Helsinki.
