At the Spazio Carra inside the Fortezza da Basso there will be also the special showcase of “The Young Talents for Sustainable Thinking” project, related to the exhibition Sustainable Thinking organized by Museo Salvatore Ferragamo. Students from eight international fashion schools - Aalto University (Helsinki), Accademia Costume & Moda (Rome), Coconogacco (Tokyo), Donghua University (Shanghai), IED (Florence/Milan), London College of Design (London), Parsons School of Design (New York), Polimoda (Florence) - were invited to create prototypes based on the themes of sustainability and recycling, using scraps that Salvatore Ferragamo company donated to each school. Each participant created a shoe, a bag or a piece of women’s clothing, and a special panel of judges including representatives of Salvatore Ferragamo, industry experts and fashion journalists judged the designs. Each school’s submissions – including the winning project, DAYDREAMING by Anna Sorri of the Aalto University Helsinki - will be displayed in a special exhibition during Pitti Filati. The winning project will also be shown in the Sustainable Thinking exhibition at Museo Salvatore Ferragamo.

3 student winners in H&M Active Wear Project, which took place 12.9.2018-10.12.2018. 

Aalto BA Fashion and Design students Anna Semi, Fanni Lyytikäinen, Henna Lampinen, Riikka Hongisto and Noora Ainasoja (group work) were selected as finalists in ColorAMA Award. ColorAMA Award is a competition promoted by Filmar Spa and held twice a year to inspire fashion students to develop innovative proposals tackling seasonal color foorecasts for yarns. Aside from the prize on offer, the contest will be a fantastic way to showcase students' talents and skills and see them applied to projects outside the classroom: a win-win approach for industry and education institutions to become more competitive.

Aalto BA Fashion Student Hanna Herva was selected as a finalist in the ISKO I-SKOOL Denim Design Award. The ISKO I-SKOOL™ Denim Design Award is much more than a simple competition: it is a structured training program meant to motivate youth to learn everything they can about the art of denim and gain experience through a number of workshops and denim seminars that take place in the inspiring Creative Room, ISKO's style research lab located in Italy.

BA Fashion student Anna Semi was one of the twenty finalists in the Dorothy Waxman International Textile Design Prize. The competition received more than 250 entries of textile design-related BA and MA graduate work from eduational design institutes around the world.
