University Board approved the Annual Board Report and Financial Statements 2017
The board took the opportunity to thank the whole university community for reaching the budget balancing plan targets, set for years 2016–18, ahead of the schedule.
The board also addressed the long-term financial plan and budget 2019 guidelines. The university planning cycle is changed for this year to enable better planning of the long-term commitments of the academic activities. The long-term financial plan is compiled during the spring together with the schools, and the board will confirm the long-term plan and next year’s annual budget during its meeting in June.
The board also authorized the president to finalize the employment contract of the dean of the School of Engineering.
In its meeting, the board decided to initiate the process of recruiting the dean of the School of Chemical Engineering. The current dean Janne Laine, whose five-year term ends at the end of 2018, has announced that he will not apply for the second term.
The board welcomed the excellent progress made with the recruitment process of the next vice president for education. The recruiting process is carried out by a diverse recruitment committee. The nomination decision will be made by the board in its June meeting, and the appointed person is expected to begin his/her work on 1 September 2018. The current Vice President for Education Eero Eloranta is retiring on 18 September 2018.
The board also discussed the progress of the Digital Aalto programme.
