SUMMER INTERNSHIPS AT THE FINANCE FACULTY

Aalto University School of Business

What would I do during the internship?

You would be working with the faculty on scientific research projects during the summer months. Exact dates are flexible; you would also have the possibility to work on a part-time basis during the academic semesters. You would participate in data collection and organization for research projects. Literature reviews are another possible job. If you are an excellent programmer, there are many things where you could contribute. Whatever research-related skills you have, we will try to tailor your work to make the best out of those skills.

What’s in it for me?

As a member of our community, you will have the opportunity to learn research skills on the job. These skills will not only be helpful in your Master’s thesis but are also in demand in many finance and consulting sector occupations. If you want to pursue an academic career, you will greatly benefit from an early integration into the research community. And of course, you will get flexible working hours and a salary.

What is required?

We are primarily looking for students majoring in Finance, but we also welcome applications from students with other quantitatively oriented backgrounds. Completion of a Bachelor’s thesis or other relevant experience is a plus. First and foremost, we want dedicated people who fit well into our community, who are interested in the financial world and financial research, and who have the potential to develop into excellent researchers.

How can I apply?

Contact Professor Matti Keloharju at [email protected]. Include in your application a personal cover letter, CV, and a transcript of your university grades. The application deadline is January 26, 2024

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the duration of the internship?

We are generally flexible with the starting and ending dates as long as the internship lasts at least two months. The first intern usually arrives in early May and the last intern leaves in early September, but you can also start on a part-time basis before May or continue to work after September.

How many interns do you hire?

This depends on the strength of the applicant pool, faculty needs, and availability of financing. This year, six interns is a reasonable guess.

How many applications do you get?

We typically receive about 50 applications.

When do you process the applications?

We expect the selection process to last less than a week. Interviews will probably take place on January 30 and 31.

How much do you pay for the interns?

We expect the salary to be 2270 euros per month for Bachelor’s students and 2375 euros per month for Master’s students.

In low-hierarchy organisations, even key policy issues are discussed in Slack

In a recent study, Aalto University alumn Lauri Pietinalho, a visiting scholar at New York University's Stern School of Business, and Frank Martela, an assistant professor at Aalto University, investigated how low-hierarchy organisations deal with shared policies in confrontational situations and how authority functions within them.
